Patients with CKD should read the following message carefully

In the event of contracting coronvirus aka COVID-19 and becoming unwell it is important for you to avoid certain medications.

Anti inflammatory like ibuprofen and naproxen should be avoided.

Certain blood pressure medications including, ramipril, lisinopril, perindopril, enalapril, captopril, candesartan, losartan, olmesartan, valsartan, irbesartan, telmisartan should all be avoided

Metformin which is a diabetic medication should be avoided

Water tablets also know as diuretics. These including furosemide, bumetanide, spironolactone, bendroflumathiazide and indapamide should all be avoided

These medications will usually be of benefit but in severe illness can potentially make things worse. In most cases a short break from these medications during illness is unlikely to cause harm. If you have any questions now or if you develop symptoms of COVID-19 please call the surgery but do not attend unless asked to do so.
