Sit to Get Fit

My name is Eileen and I run gentle exercise classes twice a week at Maywood Surgery.

Why not come along and give it a try? The classes are just £2.

  • Mondays 11.00-11.45am are for patients of the surgery
  • Thursdays 1.00pm -1.45pm are for anyone

You can come to either class on any Monday or Thursday without booking.

The exercises are chair based. The routines I use are designed to exercise all muscles to build strength and stability, and to exercise all joints for increased flexibility and mobility. There is a lot of emphasis on good posture and circulation. All of these exercises help with improving your general wellbeing and maintaining independence.

I love these exercises because they are easily adapted to suit all abilities. You can work very gently but you can also use the same exercise to work quite hard.

I began the classes at Maywood in April 2013, starting with 1 class and then introducing another class 6 months later. The exercises have helped a lot of people in that time. I get regular feedback from people saying they feel better generally, or that the exercises help with a particular problem.

  • One lady who has been doing the exercises for only a few weeks has said that she can get in and out of her chair much easier because her legs are stronger.
  • Another lady can walk much further than before.
  • Several people feel they have more movement in their shoulders.

Many people tell me that the exercise classes are a great help and that they also enjoy the company of others. The groups are friendly and always give a warm welcome to newcomers.
